The role:

Supervise and lead the:

-  Validation of analytical methods
-  Calibration of analytical equipment

Development of new and improvement of current XRF applications and analytical methods
Management of the Laboratory QA/QC System
Conduct research work in order to initiate Laboratory process improvements
Manage projects with regard to processes, technology and equipment
Liaise with other development sections in evaluation of new technology to improve process capabilities and product quality
Advise clients (line management) with regard to best practices on production / product quality related problems
Management and improvement of the Laboratory Quality Management Systems including ISO17025
Validation and improvement of primary and secondary sample preparation systems
Responsible for the technical development and coaching of Foremen, Technicians and Technicians-in-Training

Requirements:

BSc degree or National Diploma in Analytical  Chemistry or other relevant qualification
A sound knowledge of X-Ray analysis and sample preparation preferably of iron ore or geological samples
At least 5 years Laboratory management experience
Experience in the Iron Ore / mineral preparation industry and quality assurance in manufacturing is essential
A3 – safety Course will be a recommendation.
Management courses will be advantageous.

Function well in a team.
The ability to act as a coach in the technical development of subordinates is a requirement
Checking and reporting regarding sample quality and sample test results

Remuneration:

The initial salary will be determined in accordance with Kumba Iron Ore regulations
This is an Anglo Band 6 role (GBF6 / E-role)
