Senior Environment Officer, Chad


The Senior Environmental Officer will be based in N'djamena and will work closely with colleagues in related technical sectors at N'djamena office (including water and sanitation , shelter, nutrition, education, food, health as well as community services, gender and age, and livelihood) and assist the field units to promote mainstreaming of environmental issues into the programme. The Senior Environmental Officer plays a leadership role within UNHCR's operation in Chad by supporting all issues related to environment, self-reliance and shelter/infrastructures and making sure that UNHCR policies are in line with the global and national strategies. Regular and frequent discussions between the incumbent and his/her Supervisor are necessary, to ensure that latest practices and procedures are shared and used consistently on issues related to environment.

Regular contact with environment coordinators at Sub-Office (SO) level. Regular contact with Headquarters and Units, and Sub-Offices to provide technical support and advice, undertake missions to the fields and liaise with Head SO and environmental unit on the implementation of environment, environmental, self-reliance and shelters/site planning programme. In addition the staff member will maintain the regular contact with UN technical agencies, implementing and operational partners as needed.
