The Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) is a group of private development agencies working to empower communities and individuals, often in disadvantaged circumstances, to improve living conditions and opportunities, especially in Africa and Asia. The Position
In East Africa, AKES currently operates 19 schools, catering to 8,787 students and employing 526 teachers. AKES operates as a not-for-profit agency and the services it provides are often subsidised. AKES is committed to achieving excellence by continuous improvement of its programmes, services and processes. AKES in East Africa benefits from its association with AKES country networks in South and Central Asia. Models of education that have proved successful in one region are modified and replicated in other regions, thus creating a unique educational system based on universally shared expertise.
AKES is currently seeking to recruit a Chief Executive Officer for AKES, Kenya. The CEO will be responsible for leading its operations in Kenya; for developing and articulating the organisation's strategic direction and objectives, and for formulating and implementing immediate and long term plans as well as developing and managing budgets.
The Requirements
The successful candidate will have the following profile:
Be a visionary and dynamic leader.
Demonstrate entrepreneurial instinct and have an extensive knowledge of contemporary developments in the global education arena.
Have strong interpersonal and communication skills as well as cultural awareness and sensitivity.
Highly qualified in business and/or education management, with substantial senior leadership experience, preferably within education organisations.
