Who we are
Oxfam is an International NGO working with others to find lasting solutions to poverty and suffering in Tanzania and more than 80 other countries worldwide. In Tanzania Oxfam is working in Shinyanga, Dodoma, Morogoro, Tanga, manyara and Arusha to implement three change goals that have been identified in the country strategy for 2010/2015, namely Economic Justice - Rural Livelihoods (including smallholder, pastoralist and women's livelihoods), Gender Justice - equality for women and Social Justice centred in active citizenship and effective governance for quality essential services. Gender justice change goal aims at ending violence against women and to promote women's leadership and economic empowerment.
We are currently looking for a dynamic and knowledgeable Media and Communications Manager to enhance the impact of our work in Tanzania.
The role
In this role you will report to Country Director. You will be responsible for managing Oxfam's external communications and media strategy in Tanzania. You will gather and present content for different media and audiences both within Tanzania and internationally. You will establish and build relationship with the media, while maximising opportunities to build the profile of Oxfam, and developing the capacity of staff to give briefings to the media. You will support Oxfam's campaigning and advocacy work with partners and alliances. You will work to strengthen Oxfam's communication with its partners and other stakeholders in Tanzania as well as supporting internal communication and team building within Oxfam staff. You will be responsible to ensure the management and correct us of the Oxfam brand and global identity in Tanzania.
The person
The successful candidate will be an excellent communicator with solid experience of working with the media, relevant experience in developing and implementing communications strategies including digital communications; have writing skills to a professional level in both English and Swahili and a keen understanding of media markets in East Africa and Europe. Proven creative ability to spot and maximise opportunities for PR and experience in working with multiple stakeholders to deliver complex projects. Strong knowledge of digital communications and how to use new media to engage audiences. knowledge and understanding of the context of poverty and vulnerability in Tanzania. Commitment to active citizenship and gender equality and ability to work in a culturally diverse organisation. Flexibility in terms of travel and working hours is a requirement of this role.
