The Role
The post holder will develop in-country media strategy in consultation with programme team and South Sudanese partners. An important contribution for this role will be support for the development of the new South Sudan Rights in Crisis campaign. You will work with staff across Oxfam International; build Oxfam's campaigning impact by getting messages communicated effectively and ensuring these are linked to Oxfam's direct action, policy advocacy and campaigning. You will deliver national, and support regional, media coverage by researching stories and developing effective media strategies that position Oxfam through writing and placing stories, organising press conferences and media briefings. You will support the relationship building with national and international media in South Sudan, to develop media interest through providing information, prospecting for stories and supporting media visits as required. In addition you support and develop Oxfam's programme spokespeople through training and accompaniment of programme staff for active and compelling communications to carry out media work and direct lobbying on Oxfam's global campaign priorities.
The Person
To be successful for this post, you will require a university degree level education with extensive proven experience of working effectively in communications, public relations or media. You will have demonstrable knowledge of humanitarian or development work. You will have the ability to digest large amounts of complex information and produce clear, well-written summaries. You will be a confident verbal communicator with good representation skills. You will have demonstrable ability to identify and write compelling human-interest stories. Ability to present and package information in attractive, accessible formats is essential as well as excellent English writing skills and sound knowledge of the economic and political context of South Sudan. Desktop publishing, photographic, video and web skills are an added advantage.
