Logistics Manager, Nairobi
Purpose of the Position
Under the general supervision of the Chief Supply & Logistics, manages the shipping and logistics operations of the Somalia Country Office (SCO). Responsible for all logistical arrangements of UNICEF supplies in support of the Country Programmes in Central South Zone.
Key Expected Results
Provide leadership, technical and operational support, as well as advice on application of logistics management and best practice systems and procedures, taking initiative on management improvement for the logistics function.
Responsible for logistics planning through coordination with Programme Sections. Provide technical advice on logistics arrangements facilitating efficient clearance, risk mitigation, storage and distribution of supplies and equipment, in support of the country programme implementation.
Responsible for emergency logistics response and planning across Somalia in close coordination with relevant stakeholders such as Programmes, Supply Division, Regional Office, Logistics cluster etc.
Participate in the Country Programme strategy planning and reviews meetings to identify operational trends and requirements. Contribute to drafting the Logistics component of the Country Programme, including systems for storage and distribution of supplies to all project sites.
Liaise with the Heads of Field Offices and Programmes to ensure that supplies are delivered in a timely manner. This includes development of a supply delivery monitoring reports and time tables.
Responsible for contracts with logistics service providers, including tendering and contract management.
Responsible for the management of Programme and contingency stockpiles across Somalia and off-shore transit-hubs. This includes production and distribution of weekly stock-reports, with narrative analysis.
Provide technical logistics guidance across Somalia on coordination of warehousing and distribution of supplies. Conduct training for UNICEF staff and counterparts on logistics management, including warehousing and distribution.
Construct and maintain key performance indicators by which countrywide logistics operations can be evaluated, including logistics service providers.
Qualifications of Successful Candidate
Advanced university degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering or a related technical field. Technical training in movement of supplies and warehousing/logistics required.*
Minimum 8 years of relevant work experience at the national and international levels in supply/logistics management; two years of which should be in developing countries.
Fluency in English and another UN language required. Knowledge of the Somali language is an asset.
*A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.

Please note that the duty station for this post is Nairobi, Kenya with a possible move to Somalia once the security situation allows.
