Position Summary

Futures Group is providing monitoring & evaluation (M&E) assistance to a 5-year USAID-funded project supporting the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare (MoHSW) efforts to lead, manage, and coordinate the national response to the Most Vulnerable Children (MVC) and HIV prevention among youth. Specifically, the Project’s purpose is to expand critical services for orphans and other vulnerable children and targeted HIV/AIDS services for youth in three regions of the central zone of Tanzania: Dodoma, Singida and Iringa. It seeks to improve the wellbeing of 150,000 MVC by strengthening the capacity of Local Government Authorities (LGAs) in managing and monitoring the MVC response, increasing access to quality and community-level comprehensive health and socio-economic services, increasing youth and child participation in addressing problems and issues affecting MVCs, and strengthening the capacity of Tanzanian civil society organizations to provide leadership in addressing MVC issues.  The Project includes 17 local NGos, including several FBOs.

The Informatics and Technology Associate is expected to work closely with the two Futures Group Senior  M&E Advisors based in Dar es Salaam and Washington, DC, the Project’s Chief of Party,  and other relevant M&E and project staff in Tanzania on monitoring and evaluating the Project.. He/she is responsible for ensuring field data is gathered and entered into a database, ensuring the quality of the data entered and helping to produce initial statistical analyses.

Key Responsibilities

Provide support to project management and M&E team and partners for the design, installation and running of the project database
Responsible for extraction and computer entry of data from M&E data collection forms and field reports, as well as some analysis
Assist the South African programming team on writing SQL queries for new or enhanced reports
Undertake routine data quality control checks of own and others work
Run basic database queries and produce reports as requested by project management and M&E team
IT troubleshooting at partner sites that have technical difficulties
Train project and partner staff on database management issues
Other responsibilities as needed

Qualifications

BSc Computer science
Sound mathematical and basic statistical skills
3 years systems administration and database administration experience
Experience with Microsoft Operating Systems, including:
MS SQL server
MS Office
Antivirus
Experience in installation and maintenance of PC hardware systems
Networking experience including LAN set up
Demonstrated ability to transfer knowledge through formal and informal training
Demonstrated ability to work in a team as well as independently
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Experience in implementing US Government-funded projects
Fluency in written and spoken English and Swahili
This position will be based in Dodoma, Tanzania; some travel to partner sites is possible.
