WEB APPLICATIONS DEVELOPER

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is an innovative,
pan-African centre for post-graduate education, research and outreach,
which has achieved global recognition since opening in 2003.

The AIMS -Next Einstein Initiative (AIMS-NEI) was set up following the success of AIMS
to build a critical mass of scientific and technical talent across Africa.
Excellent graduates from African Universities will be trained in these
centres of academic excellence. The students joining the AIMS-NEI centres
share their learning of science, develop a commitment to a better African
future and bridge cultural and national boundaries.

AIMS-NEI is coordinated by a Secretariat located in Muizenberg, near Cape
Town, South Africa and seeks to appoint a Web Applications Developer to
join an international team in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities:
Develop AIMS-NEI web applications and sites in collaboration with the IT
team at the Perimeter Institute in Waterloo, Canada (including Drupal
plugin development); Develop a student application management system
(based on an existing application); Develop a web application for lecturer
& course proposals, tutor applications, AIMS Alumni; Implement a digital
library system for the network of centres; Develop web-based tools for
research and scientific communication in close collaboration with
scientists; Maintain the web applications above.

Requirements:
A professional qualification in web development or related field;
Experience working with Open Source software, deploying content
management systems, database design and abstraction, LAMP, and web
frameworks; Several years web application development experience,
including a portfolio; Experience with XML web services.


Commencement of duties: As soon as possible thereafter
Remuneration: The remuneration package, including benefits will be
competitive and commensurate with experience and qualifications. The
initial post is expected to be on a full-time contract position for 2 years.
