Aga Khan Health Services: With community health programmes in large geographical areas in Central and South Asia, as well as East Africa, and more than 200 health facilities including nine hospitals, the Aga Khan Health Services (AKHS) is one of the most comprehensive private not-for-profit health care systems in the developing world. Building on the Ismaili Community's health care efforts in the first half of the 20th century, AKHS now provides primary health care and curative medical care in Afghanistan, India, Kenya, Pakistan, and Tanzania, and provides technical assistance to government in health service delivery in Kenya, Syria and Tajikistan.

The Position
The primary mandate of the Facilities & Maintenance Manager
(FMM) will be to manage, monitor, and oversee all Facilities & Maintenance operational activities concerning the Hospital's internal/external infrastructure and surrounding premises to ensure the Hospital functions and operates in good order without interruption in service and in accordance with regulations and standards.

Responsibilities

Administrative and Strategic

Plan and organize all aspects of maintenance functions and ensue safe, reliable and efficient operations of the entire Maintenance system

Ensure that necessary resources are made available in the Annual Budget to effectively undertake fiscal plans, goals & objectives

Implementing various policies and standards like ISO, OSHA, JCIA, etc.

Develop, design, procure, budget and manage Utilities, Maintenance, Capital Improvements master projects from initial concept through close out, including feasibility study and planning

Prepare departmental budget and monitor departmental cost control, cost trending and forecasting, and provide recommendations regarding budget parameters

Provide leadership and training to the personnel assigned to the project

Operational

Supervise and direct a workforce to ensure the facility is maintained in an orderly manner

Plan and carry out preventive maintenance on a regular basis. Be in charge of complete building maintenance including all facilities like water supply, electricity, generators, hot water system, fire systems

Coordinate work activities with City departments, representatives of local agencies, and equipment and service suppliers

Oversee and supervise work plan and activities of facilities & maintenance staff so as to ensure work orders and projects are carried in an efficient and timely manner. Mobilize staff to attend to any unforeseen, emergencies and breakdowns related to, but not limited to, facilities, utilities, amenities, equipment or systems

Regularly inspect existing hospital buildings and facilities and advise as to preventative maintenance measures needed

Ensure work is performed with sound safety practices and adhered to industrial or commercial standards


Special Projects

Provide assistance to senior management and other staff on special projects, involving research, compiling information or data of a specialized nature, analysis, planning and technical support

May serve on special task forces and committees.

The Requirements

The ideal candidate will have the following profile:

Engineering Degree in Civil/Electrical/Mechanical or a related field

Asset: Bachelor's Degree or Advanced Diploma Project Management or Project Planning

At least 8 to 10 years relevant experience in major healthcare or 5 star hotel or industrial Complex

Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices, infrastructure design, construction and materials

Ability to communicate technical information effectively, by creating/presenting information in data of graphic format

Ability to plan, organize, direct and evaluate the work of others, as well as to draw on the expertise of others, and lead a technical team

Willingness to be flexible in work habits and assigned tasks. Adaptable and comfortable in less than fully structured environment
