Background / General description:

Senior Investment Officer – Johannesburg, South Africa The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the private sector arm of the World Bank Group, is seeking to hire one Senior Investment Officer for its Africa Office. The Senior Investment Officer s primary responsibilities will include
(i) origination and support of new transactions, primarily in the mining industry;
(ii) management of relationships with extractive industry clients; and
(iii) supervision of an assigned portfolio projects.

Duties and Accountabilities:

# Develop a thorough understanding of the mining sector and in-depth relationships with key regional and local sector players. Identify possible investments in the region: Leverage existing business network to develop investment leads;
# Collect and analyze market data to support identification of new business opportunities. Conduct company research and valuation;
# Make clients calls and business development presentations. Participate in all aspects of IFC s project processing cycle, from project development to disbursement:
# Evaluate the attractiveness of potential investments. Analyze financial statements and prepare financial models;
# Participate in the structuring and negotiation of deals;
# Prepare project-related documents for internal and external audiences;
# Champion IFC s technical assistance and added value sustainability offerings to potential clients. Participate in developing country strategies:
# Develop a thorough understanding of the Country and Region;
# Prepare country and industry trends analysis;
# Partner with the World Bank to coordinate World Bank Group Private Sector Development activities and provide input to Country Assistance Strategy. Manage Portfolio Projects and Client relationships
# Tracking and taking the lead in managing sensitive environmental and social issues that may arise in assigned projects;
# Championing IFC s technical assistance and value-added sustainability offerings to portfolio clients;
# Tracking and recording the development impacts of assigned projects; and
# Developing and implementing equity sales strategies for assigned projects.

Selection Criteria:

# MBA and/or Chartered Accountant (CA) with a minimum of 8 years experience in project and corporate finance including promotion and execution of investments with good business networks, and credibility within the investment community;
# Strong financial and credit skills, including financial modeling and analysis;
# Demonstrated ability to structure projects and to close transactions,
# Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including excellent command of English (mandatory), French or Portuguese would be an advantage;
# Facility to work successfully in multicultural teams and across boundaries with demonstrated teamwork abilities;
# Strong sense of service to clients, openness to feedback and to new ideas.
