Requirement Overview:


To contribute to sustainability at an end market level by shaping the business environment through the planning and execution of campaigns designed to deliver the preferred regulatory future as defined through the strategy & budget cycle
To ensure that BAT becomes the partner of choice for governments and takes a leading role as appropriate within the industry as well as amongst key allies on tobacco control issues including excise, illicit trade, harm reduction and FTAs as appropriate
To contribute to the achievement of business objectives by ensuring regulatory impact mitigation on a cross functional basis and identifying opportunities for competitive advantage in the development of the regulatory environment
To drive and manage the continuous development of BAT’s regulatory engagement with a view to promoting tobacco regulation which balances the interests of consumers with the interests of society

Key Responsibilities:


Operational/ Professional/ BusinessWork with the Area CORA Director to ensure that regulation (including illicit trade, excise, FTAs) is a core part of the development of Egypt business strategy and business planning fully reflects the reality of the tobacco control environment, providing the basis for future business sustainability.
To support the Area CORA Director in ensuring that there is a clear, actionable view of the regulatory future, highlighting priority issues, as an outcome of the Egypt business planning process.
Develop and execute Egypt regulatory campaign plans, to achieve desired regulatory outcomes and also financial impact mitigation for more immediate issues. This may include activities designed to balance public debate where appropriate.
In conjunction with the Internal Communications Manager, drive awareness and education programmes for all levels of staff to ensure that they fully understand and have access to the company’s regulatory views and messages on smoking and health

Skills & Experience:


A minimum of 5 -8 years experience in either marketing management (including brand campaign development and execution), CORA/Legal (with a government/regulatory aspect) or political affairs. Varied experience an advantage.
Appropriate level of maturity to provide credibility at senior levels externally and internally
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills - a credible advocate of BAT interests
Thorough understanding of the business including the wider industry
Sufficient credibility to be able to motivate cross functional involvement in engagement as required
In depth and up to date knowledge of local political and policy-making processes
Ability to apply basic project management principles to campaign execution
Cultural sensitivity
Understands/has aptitude to understand the local political environment
Strong and persistent networker – never satisfied that all stakeholders are known
Constantly checks understanding/information with a variety of contacts
Self starter – high degree of personal motivation & ability to work effectively without direct supervision
Educated to degree level – academic achievement key to being able to absorb material and develop intuitive understanding of the subject matter
Active interest in tobacco and tobacco control issues, aptitude for absorbing and applying knowledge to the debate
Thrives on debate but with a clear outcome in mind
